People ask me what AI security pays more than almost anything else. Fair question. The numbers move fast and there isn't much public data yet, so here's roughly what I'm seeing in 2026, based on the roles I work on.
Two caveats first. These are broad ranges, not a promise, and one strong candidate with real model-level experience can sit well above the top of a band. The AI premium is real too: the same person doing model security costs more than a general security engineer, because far fewer people can do it.
Securing AI (model, pipeline and agent security)
United States (base)
- Mid-level: $180k to $230k
- Senior: $230k to $300k
- Staff / principal or frontier-lab level: $300k and up, often well beyond with equity
Europe
- Mid-level: €90k to €130k
- Senior: €130k to €180k
- Lead / principal: €180k and up
- (UK broadly similar in £, London at the top end.)
Middle East (tax-free)
- UAE senior: AED 450k to 700k
- UAE lead / principal: AED 700k and up (sovereign and government-backed entities at the top)
- KSA senior: SAR 400k to 600k
- KSA lead / principal: SAR 600k and up (Vision 2030 megaprojects carry a premium)
AI for security (AI-driven SOC, detection, automation)
Usually a little below pure model-security money, because the pool is larger:
- US senior: $170k to $240k base
- Europe senior: €110k to €160k
- UAE senior: AED 380k to 550k
- KSA senior: SAR 340k to 520k
These Gulf numbers are tax-free, so they're worth more than the headline figure suggests next to US and European gross salaries.
What pushes someone to the top of the band
- Real model-level work, not just security around the model.
- An ML background that moved into security, or the reverse, done properly.
- Frontier-lab or serious enterprise names on the CV.
- Scarcity of the exact skill. Good agent-security and MLSecOps people can more or less name their number right now.

Why does AI security pay more than general cyber security?
Fewer people can do it. Securing a model and its pipeline needs both security instinct and real machine-learning understanding, and that combination is rare.

Yes. The UAE and Saudi Arabia don't levy personal income tax on salary, so the take-home is worth more than the same gross figure in the US or Europe.
